Life's Rose

My momma always warned me just how hard life can be
But it was hard to imagine underneath her arms
She clothed me, kept me full, and tucked me in at night
She kept me safe from all that harms
Then came the day that I had to walk away
And I had to face life on my own
Then what Mom would say came rushing back my way
And brother did it ever hit home
There are blessings in this life but not without their strife
Life is like a rose with its thorn
Beauty to see and to inhale but with its barbs to impale
By them every choice we make is torn
