Darkness Passed
© By: David L. Cooper

O How glorious the morning
When the darkness turns into day
The colors of life re-adorning
And the haze and the fog burns away

I was trapped in the haze and the darkness
That the crack and the meth put me in
And my life was defined by it starkness
And the sorrow and guilt of my sin

Guess there were times when the drugs made me happy
I can't remember them now
Considering how they ravaged and robbed me
Can't imagine the why or the how

Before the drugs I had my health and a life
And a home with a family and wife
But the drugs took my reason and health
Then their craving stole my family and wealth

I realize now why their gone
I'd like to but can never go home
But I breathe free air and I know you care
And you'll never leave me alone

O How glorious the morning
When the darkness turns into day
The colors of life re-adorning
And the haze and the fog burns away

I was trapped in the haze and the darkness
That the crack and the meth put me in
And my life was defined by it starkness
And the sorrow and guilt of my sin

Now I know the truth through your Word
And I live dear Lord in your love
My eyes they see my ears they hear
And my heart is led from above

I teach at a women's prison.    I see soul's lost as this one was each day.    Some have said this poem was one they could relate to.
